DIVISION 8. SPECIAL BUSINESS REGULATIONS [18400 - 22949.92.2] Â Â ( Division 8 added by Stats. 1941, Ch. 44. ) Â Â

CHAPTER 23. Tanning Facilities [22700 - 22708] Â Â ( Chapter 23 added by Stats. 1988, Ch. 808, Sec. 1. )

22701.  The Legislature finds and declares: (a) Many physicians and scientists now warn that the risks associated with suntanning are greater when tanning with artificial ultraviolet light. (b) These risks include, but are not limited to, sunburn, premature aging, skin cancer, retinal damage, formation of cataracts, suppression of the immune system, and damage to the vascular system. (c) Certain medications, cosmetics, and foods are “photosensitizing,” which means that in some people they react unfavorably with ultraviolet light to produce skin rashes or burns. (d) Sunlamps and other artificial sources of ultraviolet light are known to intensify these effects. (e) The creation of state law to protect and promote the public health, safety, and welfare is needed concerning tanning with artificial ultraviolet light. (Amended by Stats. 2006, Ch. 538, Sec. 31. Effective January 1, 2007.)
